Global challenges: issues of heritage and cultural preservation in traditional performances
Natyashashtra, the ancient Sanskrit text of dramaturgy begins with a story - the myth of the origin of art and creativity. When the Creator finished his creation, mankind was given food, clothing and shelter. Only later was mankind given creativity. Creativity was given as a tool for mankind to try and understand the mysteries of nature and create one’s own way of describing the experience. Today in the information age, nature and human beings stand against one another. Art can help create a bridge between the two. Expressing through the body, words and ideas in creative ways can lead to inner involvement and understanding. Every creative language is related to the smell of the earth it comes from. Globalization has put the onus of retaining the cultural expressions of every area in the world on the people who share that culture. No culture has developed on its own but has been a recipe with ingredients from different cultural influences that have been assimilated. Heritage and identity leave their seal on cultural expressions and analytical and objective viewing and responsible learning of the skills and dissemination are the challenges for the creative new world. Art brings the energy element into focus and represents hope, happiness, positivity and conquest of fear. Artistic expressions are a visual language and a form of information.
