Creativity, literacy and screen learning: engaging learners in aesthetic control and understanding
Learning provides opportunities for students to engage creatively with the development of digital narratives. Film offers teachers the opportunity to nurture and extend student creativity by engaging with digital video creation. This presentation examines the crucial nexus between multiliteracies and screen learning and proposes models of practice that work to engage students in literacy and creativity through film. There is also strong potential for screen drama to assist in the development of multiliteracies (Kress, 2003) in the classroom. Screen writing is a crucial skill in the development of a creative and effective narrative on screen. This presentation will also examine how screen writing can contribute to a student’s understanding of the written and filmed language. This presentation will explore the role of screen drama in creativity and literacy learning and provide some frameworks in multiple learning settings through a discussion of the literature and emerging theory in the area.
