Creativity and Culture
The presenter will discuss the theoretical relationship between promoting children’s creativity (rather than the creativity of teachers acted out by children) and the deep learning that occurs when children are intrinsically motivated.
The practical demonstration and development of these ideas will be evidenced in the work and publications of artist Nigel Meager that have focused on art in primary schools and working with local education authorities delivering in-service training for teachers. In 2005 he established workshops for children and teachers in partnership with the education authority in Cardiff, South Wales. These events encouraged children and teachers to explore their own creativity and to develop an understanding of ‘culture’ and how it operates in Society – thus also contributing significantly to ideas about democracy, heritage and identity. The work culminated in a festival event and publication of ‘Creativity and Culture: Art Projects for Primary Schools’ (NSEAD, 2006).
The aphorism ‘Creativity is not only an outcome of a good education, but a means of achieving a good education’ informs this approach. If we wish to firmly establish a central role for creativity in schools then providing proper opportunities, a supportive environment and keen motivation will be crucial.

「創意與文化」
筆者將討論兒童自發學習與創意的理論關係。筆者相信「創意非良好教育的結果而是得到良好教育的方法」的格言。此看法可體現於藝術家N. Meager在小學設立的藝術坊的經驗中引證。
