The Next Step from Lisbon to Korea
- Getting down to the 2010 World Conference on Arts Education
In 2010, the second World Conference on Arts Education will be held in Korea. The first conference, held in Lisbon, highlighted the necessity for arts education and its significance in these times, while the second conference should determine a specific direction for the promotion of arts education, and provide the momentum required to put it into action. At this forum, together with my colleagues around the world who are endeavoring to promote arts education, I would like to discuss these goals and formulate a successful preparation plan for the next world conference.
So, to that end, I will first give a brief on the progress that has been made since the Lisbon conference, and outline some of the problems. Second, I will give an explanation of the plan for the next conference. Third, I will present the goals for the next world conference, and the background to them. And fourth, I will propose some pre-events and preparation projects for potential inclusion in the agenda for the next world conference.
To conclude, during the forum I will gather questions and responses regarding the aforementioned goals, draft a final plan for a successful meeting of the next World Conference, and submit the results to the 34th General Conference of UNESCO, which has been scheduled for October 2007, via the Korean government.
