Vice Principal
European Performers House, Denmark
Mr Agerbo is founder of the European Performers House in Denmark, a new non-formal school in the performing arts; focusing on an interdisciplinary approach to art learning in an intercultural environment. He has for more than 25 years worked as theatre director and as international culture & art developer and entrepreneur. Along the years he developed a creative / artistic process called ‘Culture in Use’. This concept is a scope for personal growth, for training in cooperation, and for cultural understanding.
SYNOPSIS
Entering the new millennium, artists were the creative forces that should change the world and ensure the economical welfare of the Danish society.
The cultural policy of DANIDA (the Danish Aid and Development Program) was very clear and beautifully formulated. They found that a rich and pluralistic culture was a cornerstone of a thriving democracy. Every society is enriched by, and dependent on creative forces for survival and development. Musicians, actors and artists have struggled for freedom and they criticized repression from within or without. They have given a voice to the voiceless. Participation in creative processes allows for personal growth, as well as training in cooperation and decision-making.
At the same time the Danish Ministries of Culture and of Business Affairs formulated a common report – for the first time ever - called ‘The Creative Potential of Denmark’. This report stated that new creative contacts between art and business could give Danish business, artists and cultural institutions a leap into development, growth and profits. Business uses art, artists, and culture in the development of the organisation and artistic competences; and communications forms are used in the changing process of the organisation and of the products.
I will follow up on these two implemented policies and see what happened in Denmark up to now; and discuss what barriers and transformation artists, art education, and the society must overcome in order to have a fruitful outcome of the creative art potential.
